Stonyfield adopted an artisian attitude toward making yogurt back in 1983, when Gary and Samuel started milking seven cows on their farm. We believe that food products should contain food and nothing else. Healthy food, healthy people, healthy planet.
We’ve been caring for the earth for longer than we’ve been making yogurt. We got our start as a nonprofit farming school that taught sustainable farming methods. We began making yogurt only as a way to fund the school, then realized a successful yogurt company could make a bigger difference than our school could.
We’re still helping the planet
With our organic ingredient purchases — more than 300 million pounds of fruits, milk, and other ingredients per year — we help support hundreds of organic family farms and keep more than 100,000 agricultural acres free of toxic pesticides and other chemicals used in nonorganic farming and known to contaminate soil, air, drinking water, and food.
We give ten percent of our profits to efforts that help protect and restore the earth, and we’re constantly searching for new ways to shrink our carbon footprint and otherwise reduce our impact on the planet.
Healthy food, healthy people, healthy planet
When you keep the earth healthy, you allow it to naturally produce healthy foods that keep people healthy.
The farmers who make our organic ingredients don’t contaminate their soil with toxic pesticides or chemical fertilizers, and they don’t treat their cows with artificial growth hormones or antibiotics.
From the pure organic ingredients they produce, we make our healthy, delicious yogurt and other foods. We use only natural and organic ingredients — never any artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, or sweeteners.
