Organic Under Attack

Please make your voice "herd"!
In the final hours of developing the spending bill, House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert inserted a provision that would allow livestock producers to label their meat, milk, and eggs as organic, even if they were not fed organic feed as is mandated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Organic Standards. According to the NY Times, Fiedale Farms, a Georgia chicken processing company had asked for the provision. Despite the fact that over $10 billion of organic business a year is following the National Organic Standards, one company that can't follow the rules, has threatened to weaken the standards for all!

In response to the threat, legislation to remove the wording from the spending bill has been introduced. We urge you to help protect the integrity of Organic. Click here to send a message to your Senators and Representatives in Washington!

Earth Actions

What We Do

REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE! Stonyfield Farm is constantly working at improving our solid waste practices and decreasing the amount of waste we create at our plant. Last year, we set a goal to reuse or recycle 60% of the solid waste generated at our New Hampshire facility. The results are in, and we met and exceeded our goal! Not only are we keeping waste out of landfill and incinerators, but we are also saving money! Read more... (set it to link directly to the paragraph on solid waste minimization?)

What you can do.   Folks who do a lot of Phone, Internet, FAX or writing work are finding it appealing to work from home one day a week or every two weeks. And rightfully so! If you commute 30 miles a day, by telecommuting one day per week, you could save about $100 in gas and prevent 1,176 pounds of CO2 from warming the earth annually. Click here to learn more!
What others do.   David and Dorothy Dunsmore live and work on Marydale Farm in Vermont's beautiful Champlain Valley. The farm organically because they like the idea of producing quality products without using substances that are harmful to the environment. Read their inspirational profile here.

We Want to hear from "mooo"Love "Letters"
Each month, we like to share an email from one of our yogurt lovers. Keep the fan mail coming!

"Hi! Think I might buy YoBaby and try it out on my birds since they are my babies! My parrot, Pierre, loves the blueberry yogurt very much also. Yet peach is another favorite. Don't think he is too fusy. Recently saw my cockatiel Betsy take a taste when Pierre was not around and I think she likes it too, the YoSelf Strawberry and Banana. Pierre and Betsy send their regards! : - ) "

"My fiancee's family has a solar house and they have not turned on the electric heat in years. They do burn about 3/4 or a cord of wood per year but the rest is all solar. What a great way to go!"
